Though their lead was never truly comfortable, the Vermillion junior varsity girls took a 5-4 first-quarter advantage and held it throughout for a 24-19 win over Parkston Friday for their second straight win.
The Tanagers, who led 13-8 at the half and 15-10 after three periods, were led in scoring by Bailey Carlson with seven points, MacKenzie Huber six, Valerie Robinson five and Beth Szymonski four. Szymonski had four rebounds and Robinson three while MacKenzie Huber dished out three assists and Josie Huber had four steals.
Earlier in the week in a 38-32 win over Sioux City East, the Tanager JVs were led by Claire Jones' nine points. MacKenzie Huber had seven and Szymonski six. Off the boards Szymonski had seven rebounds and Carlson and Josie Huber three each. Sami Girard had three steals and Lizzy Bye four assists.
