The Meckling Livestock 4-H Club met on Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the 4-H Center for the January meeting, with 14 members present. President Seth Heine called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H pledge was led by Regan Heine. Roll call was �Who do you want to win the Super Bowl?� The secretary�s report was read by Tyler Hauck. No treasurer�s report was given. A thank you from Becca Hawley for sponsoring the 4-H Round Robin Trophy at the county fair and a thank-you from Sharing the Dream for sponsoring one week�s worth of corn for a Guatemalan family through the alternative Christmas gift program was read by Tyler Hauck.
The leaders thanked all members who assisted with delivering Meals on Wheels during Christmas break and for those who assisted with displays and manning the 4-H booth at the Cooperative Extension Service Winter Festival. Dates for 4-H camp this year are June 12-14. 4-H camp will be at Lake Poinsett this year and not Lake Madison. 4-H camp is open to 4-H and non-4-H youth 8-12 years old.
Dates for upcoming events were announced. Camp counselor training will be March 4-5. Applications for youth 16-21 years old are due to the Extension Office by Feb. 1. "Outdoors on a Mission," an overnight camp out at Newton Hills for members 8-12, will be June 7-8. Other upcoming summer dates for Fashion Revue, Public Presentations and the Fair schedule are posted in the January 4-H Guidelines newsletter. Members were reminded that everyone should start thinking about a topic to present at Public Presentation day this year.
4-H members will start taking orders for boxes of 4-H fruit in February. Members voted to donate a box of fresh fruit to the Vermillion Food pantry as a community service project. Members voted to play bingo with the nursing home residents at the Vermillion Care Center for their March meeting. Members voted to also participate in cleaning the Vermillion Cemetery this spring and to donate one free yard raking to the St. Agnes Classic. We also voted to co-sponsor with the Burbank Feeders club, one child for a year through the Weekend Backpack program.
Relay for Life will be held Jan. 30 from noon to 5 p.m. at the DakotaDome. The Meckling Livestock club will form a team and participate. Members and their families are encouraged to go online and register for the event and to start collecting donations. You may register at the door the day of the event. Registration cost is $10 and includes a T-shirt. We will have a campsite set up and prizes will be given for the best campsites. Bring items for the campsite.
Members created more than 100 valentines to send to veterans at each of the three veterans' care facilities around the state thanking them for their military service and to wish them a Happy Valentine�s Day. The meeting was adjourned.

Bug Collecting.� Andrew Heine gave a demonstration on �Gun Cleaning.� Regan Heine gave a demonstration on �A Salute to the Red, White and Blue.� Erika Fallan gave an illustrated talk on �Facts about Pigs.� Members enjoyed refreshments brought by Allison, Andrew and Regan Heine. The next meeting will be Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the 4-H center. Blaine Bottolfson will host.
