Owen Korcuska and Emily Van Den Hul were selected as the Vermillion High School Students of the Month for January. These two seniors are being honored for their academic excellence as well as their extra-curricular activities. Each will be awarded a $100 scholarship by First Bank & Trust in Vermillion.
Korcuska's faculty nomination indicated that what is appreciated about him is "not just his willingness to contribute to class discussion, but also his willingness to ask questions that stimulate class discussion and critical thinking." His parents are Jim and Lisa Korcuska.
He has been involved in National Honor Society, soccer, golf and Show Choir. Korcuska plans to study Engineering in college.
Van Den Hul's activities include drama, golf, SADD, volleyball and National Honor Society. She was selected for Allstate Choir as well as being the first alternate for Girls State. She plans to work toward a degree in Music Education.
"So far this year, this young lady has shown to be one of the hardest working students I have now." Her faculty endorsement went on to say, "she is always here, both mentally and physically, contributing to the discussion at hand." Kerri and Rich Van Den Hul are her parents.
