Several members of the South Dakota track and field team set personal bests and claimed individual titles against a stout Division I field on Saturday at Nebraska�s Frank Sevigne Invite on the Devaney Center Indoor Track.
Highlights for the Coyote men included freshman Travis Brenner (Yankton) winning the mile in 4:16. Brenner also finished 12th in the 800 meters in 1:57. In the special events, sophomore Casey Shade (Hartford) claimed second in the 800 meters with a season-best 1:53 and freshman Jeff Mettler (Eureka) ran an 8:46 in the 3,000 meters for 14th. The USD men�s 4×400-meter relay posted a season-best 3:21 for fourth.
The Coyote women also got good performances from the distance crew, as freshman Megan Hilson (Yankton) won the 3,000 meters in 10:21 and sophomore Jessica Brandli (Rapid City) was seventh in 10:35. Junior Emma Erickson (Gayville) finished second in the special 800 meters in 2:10 competing unattached.
Sophomore Gabriel Williams (Sioux City, IA) posted a 7.83 for seventh in the 60-meter final. Senior Haley Juhnke (Vivian) set a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles for a second consecutive day with a 9.01 to finish fourth in the consolation finals and was followed closely by sophomore Alexa Duling (Gregory) in 9.02.
