The Vermillion High School girls junior varsity bowling team was undefeated while competing in the Junior Varsity Girls State Bowling Tournament held Jan. 17 in Brandon.
Team members are Jeanette Conway, junior, Sara Marker, sophomore, Kayla Stamm, seventh grade, and Michela Constant, eighth grade. Ten teams competed in the tournament, and after the first three games, the Vermillion team was seeded first. The team was undefeated in the tournament, beating Brandon, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Roosevelt. In its last match, the Vermillion team defeated Sioux Falls Roosevelt a second time.
The team�s coach, Holly Annis, is extremely proud of the girls� performance and their persistence. �Quite a few times they had to make a critical strike to pull ahead, and they did,� she said.
Coach Annis is also proud of Michela with her �never-giving up� performance.
�This was her first year of bowling, and she went from a rough 89 game to end with a great 136 game,� she said.
The top five scorers in the tournament were named to the All Tournament Team, and three of the Vermillion bowlers � Jeanette, the team captain who placed first after rolling a 509, Sara, who placed third with a score of 468, and Kayla, who placed fourth by scoring 432, were named to that team.
