Nash Wergin of Troop 828 (Stillwater, OK) and Troop 66 (Vermillion) earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010. Wergin is the son of Rand and Vanessa Wergin of Vermillion.
Only 2 percent of Scouts attain the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America. An Eagle Scout must complete at least 21 merit badges and organize a service project that benefits his church, community, or school. Wergin led a crew that restriped and improved the parking facilities for University Heights Baptist Church in Stillwater, OK.
Wergin joined Cub Scout Pack 12 at Will Rogers Elementary in September 1999 at age of 5, and later earned their highest award, the Arrow of Light. Wergin joined Troop 828, sponsored by University Heights Baptist Church of Stillwater, OK, in April 2005. He regularly attended Summer Camps at Tom Hail Scout Reservation in Talihina, OK and participated in High Adventure trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota, and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. In addition, he was nominated for the Order of the Arrow) the Ema�O Mohpa Lodge) after becoming a Start Scout in 2008. Wergin moved with his family to Vermillion in 2009, and participated in scouting activities with Troop 66, sponsored by United Church of Christ of Vermillion. His activities in South Dakota include the annual winter Klondike, and Spring Camporee at Lewis and Clark Scout Camp.
Wergin is a junior and educated at home and at Vermillion High School. He is active in the Tanager Track and Cross Country team. Wergin was also a member of 4H where he raised four-bucket calves over three summers.
Wergin participated in a number of activities as a member of University Heights Baptist Church, including working with the youth group on a mission to restore the fire ravaged forests in the Pike National Forest in Colorado, volunteering to run the sound board and video production during the Sunday morning worship services, and assisting with setting up and taking down equipment, tables and chairs at church events. He is currently a member of Hillside Community Church (C&MA), in Vermillion where he helps with the AWANA program.
In addition, he is an active participant with the Bible studies at Grace Baptist Church. Wergin plans on attending college and pursuing a career as a physician�s assistant, or an agricultural engineer.
