Adeline Bechtold, 87, of the Vermillion area, formerly of Watertown, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Hillside Community Church in Vermillion with Rev. L. James Tieszen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown later that afternoon on Saturday. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion from 6 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service to begin at 7 p.m.
Adeline was born on Sept. 1, 1923 near Utica, to John and Bessie (Sykora) Machacek. She attended Peterka School #46 in Utica, Lesterville High School. She also attended and graduated from Mount Marty College in Yankton where she received her teaching certificate.
Adeline taught grade school in Utica, Rockland, Tyndall, and Vermillion. Later, she spent most of her time as a mother and homemaker. She married Raymond William Bechtold on March 8, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Vermillion. They raised four children, mostly in the Watertown area.
Adeline enjoyed many happy years with Raymond until his passing in 1994. She enjoyed Lawrence Welk, polkas, art, reading, gardening, and was very active in the Leah Circle at the First United Methodist Church and the Watertown Doll Club. She also enjoyed caring for her family and friends.
Adeline is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) Mack of Watertown, and Chris (Wade) Druin of Volin; son, Alan (Sue) Bechtold of Cedar Rapids, IA; 13 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by parents, John and Bessie Machacek; husband, Raymond Bechtold; one daughter; one grandson; two brothers; and one sister.
Pallbearers are her grandsons: Christopher Mack, Isaac Druin, Eric Bechtold, Ethan Druin, Marcus Bechtold and Austin Druin. Honorary pallbearers are her younger grandsons: Seth Druin, Joel Druin, Kyle Bechtold and Levi Bechtold.
