The Vermillion Area Community Foundation is accepting proposals for projects to improve our community. Forms for submitting proposals by groups or organizations are available at the Chamber of Commerce office. While funds available are limited we can fully fund small one time requests or partially fund larger projects. Your annual donations to our Foundation will provide us with increasing funds each year for worthwhile projects.
The Eagle Riders are raffling a 2011 Harley Davidson Heritage Softtail. Tickets are $20 each with the proceeds going to the Diabetes Research Center, state and local charities. Tickets can be purchased at the Eagles Club 605-624-9934 or from any Eagle Rider Member. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold.
Big Friend-Little Friend, Inc. of Clay & Union counties is seeking two adult males to match with boys in Elk Point and Burbank, and two adult females to match with girls in Vermillion. Volunteers spend two hours per week with their matches, and all volunteers have background checks and interviews prior to the match. For more information, contact John P. Community Education: �Copper Crafting� � Venture into the art of copper wire, beads and marbles; or your own special objects, with tools that you probably have around your house. Copper wire, beads and marbles are supplied. Tools required to bring; ball-peen hammer, needle nose pliers and wire cutters. You can choose either a votive candle holder or wind chime to tickle your creativity. Monday, March 14, 6 to 7 p.m. Location to be announced at later date.
The Center Outings: Kenny Rogers Concert � The Center (formerly Vermillion Senior Center) is planning a trip to Sioux Falls, Saturday, April 2 at the Washington Pavilion. Tickets and transportation will be $75 plus an evening meal in Sioux Falls. Depart from the Center around 4:30 p.m. If interested � please call The Center at 624-8072 no later than Friday, March 4 by 12 p.m. We do not have tickets reserved so need to make plans ASAP in order to get good seats. Sharing the Dream April Trip to Guatemala: Weaving & Textile Crafts Tour, April 2-10. Limit of four people. The course includes one Indigenous Guatemalan teacher per pair of students, a back strap loom and all materials needed for weaving, classes English translation during the whole tour, transport, lodging, and food. Vermillion Special Olympics Polar Plunge � Vermillion Special Olympics will be hosting the second annual Polar Plunge fundraiser � Freezin' for a Reason! The Plunge will take place April 10 at 2 p.m. (registration from 12:30 to 2 p.m.) in the high school parking lot. Jumpers will plunge into a lined dumpster filled with very cold water! The cost is $100 to jump with the price including a free t-shirt and meal at the after jump party. For $25, children can take the plunge into a kiddie pool filled with warm water with the price including a free t-shirt. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes and top money raisers.
