Meckling 4-H�ers hold Feb. 7 meeting
The Meckling Livestock 4-H club met on Feb. 7, 2011 at 6:30 p..m. at the 4-H Center. The meeting was called to order by Tyler Hauck. The American Flag and 4-H Pledges were led by Peyton Larson. Roll Call was �Who is your favorite Valentine?�
Old business included the following: 1. The Clay County 4-H program has received a grant from the America�s Farmers Grow Communities thanks to the application submitted by the David Fallen family. Presentation of the check will be Feb.28 prior to the 4-H Leader�s meeting at 6 p.m. Club members are urged to be present for picture taking. 2. Fruit Sale money must be turned into a leader by Feb. 27. Each member is encouraged to sell as many boxes as possible as this is our main fundraiser. 3. Deadline for the 2011 �Kids Speak� entries is March 11. This year�s topic is �How can policy help South Dakota youth avoid the lasting effects of tobacco,drugs and alcohol?� 4. Members wanting to show livestock must possess market beef by April 1, all other livestock by June 1. Market beef weigh in for the county is March 19.
New Business included: 1 Bingo at the Care Center has been moved to April 30. 2. Washington Pavilion Ag Day is scheduled for March in Sioux Falls. The meeting was adjourned.
Following the meeting, Blaine Bottolfson gave an illustrated talk on �Recycling.� Shelly Hauck, registered licensed dietitian gave a talk to the club entitled �Think Your Drink� concerning making wise beverage choices. We also had a judging class on cookies for practice for the upcoming Judging School, March 7 in Beresford. Refreshments were provided by Blaine Bottolfson.
