The Freeman Tree City Committee and the Freeman Prairie Arboretum are sponsoring a free workshop led by John Ball Thursday evening, March 17 at the Prairie Arboretum Interpretive Center in Freeman starting at 7 p.m.
Ball, who is a South Dakota State University Extension Forestry Specialist, will speak about replanting options for ash trees lost to disease.
With the looming threat of emerald ash borer and thousand cankers disease among other exotic pests, its time to rethink what we plant in the landscape, Ball said. This session will cover some of the best new trees and shrubs that are adapted to our climate and soils.
Following his presentation, Ball will be available for a question and answer session on trees.
Anyone is welcome to attend; no advance registration is required.
