Carol Hohenthaner of Yankton placed first in the womens division and 15th overall at the Fifth Trek up the Tower race held in Omaha, NE on Feb. 26. Carols time of 5:94 was a new womens record and was her second consecutive win. Randy Rasmussen, Vermillion, placed 10th overall in a time of 5:41 and was third in the (40-49) age group. Jake Hohenthaner, Yankton, place 91st in 6:48, Carol Lavin, Vermillion, was 190th and third in her age group with a time of 7:23. Sandy Yaggie, Mission Hill, tied for 493rd in 8:55.
The runners are members of Lewis and Clark runners. The team placed second in the Community Team division and was first in the Coed division.
The event was held in Omahas First National Bank Tower, which is the tallest building between Denver and Chicago. The race covered 40 floors (873 stairs) and was 633 feet in the air. There were 1,429 runners who participated in the race. Ivan Marsh of Ashland, NE won the race in a time of 4:27.
