Richard Dahlman

Richard Peter Dahlman, 77, Rapid City, passed away at his home on Friday, March 4, 2011 while surrounded by family and friends.

Richard was born in Vermillion on May 17, 1933 to Carl and Georgina Dahlman. He served in the United States Army for two years and then worked for Northwestern Bell and US West for 37 years, retiring in 1989.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of Rapid City; four sons, Alan (friend Sandy) Dahlman of Rapid City and son, Ben of Boise, ID, Bryan (Laura) Dahlman and daughter, Janet (fianc Kris Nemec) and Laura's sons, Mitchell and Clinton Hackman, all of Gillette, WY, Clark (Jennifer) Dahlman and daughters, Spencer and Lauren of San Diego, CA, Steve (fianc Annie Ritchie) Dahlman, son Matt, daughter Grace and Annie's sons, Bobbie and Danny Ritchie of Woodbury, MN; sister, Helen (Charles) Meier of Stow, OH; brother, Herb (Brenda) of Florida; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dahlman of Vermillion; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and his special toy poodle, Missy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Robert and James; and sister-in-law, Phyllis.

Loving him was a blessing and being loved by him was a whole lot of fun.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills or the Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House.

Visitation was Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City and will continue on Thursday one hour prior to service time at the church.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Kathy Monson Lutes and The Rev. Deacon Virginia Bird officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with TREA of Rapid City providing military honors.
