The South Dakota athletic department has announced the 2011 Coyote Sports Hall of Fame class. Five athletes will join former Coyote women�s basketball coach Chad Lavin of Vermillion, and special contributor Jim Houtz of Scottsdale, AZ, as inductees in 2011. The induction ceremony is set for Saturday, Sept. 17 at noon at the Muenster University Center on the USD campus.
Former Coyote athletic standouts Craig Austin of Lone Tree, CO, Nathan Blessen of Gold River, CA, Jason Leber of Mountville, PA, Lionel McPhaull of Omaha, NE, and Julie Tolstedt-LaFleur of Rapid City, will join Lavin and Houtz as inductees for the Class of 2011.
In addition, the 2007-08 Coyote women�s basketball team which finished 33-2 and was the Division II national runner-up, will be recognized in the special achievements category.
�It is my honor and privilege to announce the 2011 Coyote Sports Hall of Fame class. We are excited to be able to honor these outstanding individuals and to pay tribute to the long history of South Dakota Athletics,� South Dakota Athletic Director David Sayler said. �Each of the inductees was a pioneer in their sport and in the development of our athletic program.
