Mayor Jack Powell presents a proclamation issued by the city of Vermillion declaring Saturday, April 2 as Anna Aust Day. Anna, born March 30, 1911 in Sweden, moved to the United States with her family when she was 2. She has lived in Clay County 95 years, has worked at Davis Drug Store, the University of South Dakota and the Vermillion Nursing Home until her retirement in 1976. She will have lived in Town Square in Vermillion for 35 years on Oct. 1. Anna and her husband, Lloyd, raised a son and daughter, and today, Annas family include six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. During her long life, she has been active in church and community activities in Vermillion. Her proclamation states, the City of Vermillion wills all good wishes, fanfare and celebration such a milestone warrants, as her friends and relatives gather to honor her and celebrate her life and the camaraderie of the day.
