Amelia Weisner


Funeral services for Amelia C. "Mimi" Weisner, 104, of Pukwana, were Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Pukwana Cemetery in Pukwana. Visitation was Friday, April 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

Amelia Charlotte Johnanna Springer was born Dec. 25, 1906 at Vega, northeast of Pukwana, to Ernest and Christina (Schwiesow) Springer, born the second of 11 children. Amelia was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain. She attended school at the Gerhart and Schwiesow Country Schools and then Chamberlain High School.

On Aug. 5, 1928, Amelia was united in marriage to Elisa Wooledge at Fort Thompson by Rev. David Clark. They resided west of Gann Valley until his death on Jan. 6, 1939. To this union, two daughters were born Fern and Frances.

Amelia was united in marriage to Fred Weisner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA on Dec. 24, 1940. They resided on his ranch west of Gann Valley before moving to Kimball in 1952. They made their home on the ranch until Fred's death in 1967.

Amelia lived in Kimball before moving to Vermillion to be near her daughter Fern and her husband Ralph Knutson. She later moved to Pukwana and then to her daughter Frances and her husband William Petrak's home. Just recently, Amelia moved to Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain where she resided until her death at the age of 104 years.

Amelia loved horses, crocheting, scrapbooking, writing poetry, and was known for her delicious angel food cakes and pies. She collected bells and cups and saucers. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Amelia helped deliver many babies over the years and also did hospice care.

Amelia passed away on April 13, 2011 at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain. Gratefully sharing her life are her daughters Fern Knutson of Vermillion and Frances Petrak and husband William of Pukwana; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two foster great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, six brothers, four sisters, and her son-in-law Ralph.
