� Brown Bag Lunch program, �Vermillion�s Own King of the Guitar,� featuring T. Wilson King, South Dakota poet/songwriter, playing acoustic and bottle-neck guitars, 12:05 p.m. at the National Music Museum located on the USD campus, corner of Clark & Yale streets. Open to the public at no charge.

� Last Day of Public School; early dismissal at 2 p.m.

Saturday, May 21

� Preservation Celebration – Annual spring gathering of the Clay County Historic Preservation Commission at the Austin Whittemore House, 15 Austin St. Free and open to the public. No registration required. See story on page 3 for times.

� VPD Bike Extravaganza and ESA Elan/SADD St. Jude Bike Ride at the Vermillion High School parking lot. Bike Rodeo starts at 2 p.m. with games, prizes and safety inspection. Bike Ride starts at 4 p.m. Registration/consent forms for the Bike Ride available at the school offices and public library foyer. Fundraising is optional. Top fundraiser for St. Jude gets choice of new bike, 7� VIZIO portable TV or $50 gift card. Second and third top fundraisers get second and third choice. � Eagle Riders Supper Ride to Bruno�s, South Yankton, Neb. (bring helmet). Kick stands up at 6 p.m. leaving from the Eagles Club.

� Vermillion Rotary Club meeting, noon-1 p.m. in the Freedom Forum Conference Room of the Al Neuharth Media Center.

Thursday, May 26

� Poppy Day: American Legion Auxiliary volunteers will distribute the familiar red, handcrafted poppies honoring America�s war dead. Volunteers will be at Jones Food Center and Hy-Vee Food Store from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

� Vermillion Area Farmers Market, 3-7 p.m. at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Event includes education session for customers on �What�s Cooking? All Things Green,� from 4-5 p.m.

Planning Ahead:

� JUNE 4 � Vermillion Area Farmers Market, 9 a.m.-noon, downtown Vermillion at Ratingen Platz, Market & Main streets.

� JUNE 11 � Annual H-WORTH?OPEN at The Bluffs. Call The Bluffs clubhouse (677-7058) to sign up for an 18-hole scramble tournament in memory of Matthew Hollingsworth. The day includes golf, prizes and a BBQ afterwards. Proceeds from this tournament are given to the Clay County EMS Dept.

� JUNE 23 � Annual Ice Cream Social sponsored by Clay County Historical Society, 5-7 p.m. at the W.H. Over Museum. Taverns, chips, homemade pies, cake, ice cream, coffee and lemonade will be served. Carry outs available. The McNeills from Springfield will provide music. Transportation will be provided from the parking areas to the front door of the museum. Freewill donation will be accepted.

� JUNE 23-25 � 2011 Vermillion Annual Citywide Rummage Sale. Watch your Plain Talk and Broadcaster Press for more details.

� JUNE 24 � Midsommar at Dalesburg – 142nd Annual Midsommar at Dalesburg Lutheran Church. Scandinavian Smorgasbord serving from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Afternoon program at 2 p.m. with songs and stories, evening program at 7 p.m. with �The Great Pretenders,� raising of the Midsommar Pole & folkdancing.

� JUNE 27-JULY 1 � Sharing the Dream June Trip to Guatemala: Limit of seven people. Visit cooperatives, schools, the Elder Center, and share with our brothers and sisters in Guatemala. $1,100 per person (includes everything in Guatemala). Airfare extra. Contact Diane at for more information.

� JULY 21, AUG. 4 & 18 � Thursdays on the Platz, from 6-8 p.m. corner of Market & Main streets. Live music on Ratingen Platz.

� SEPT 17 � Historic Vermillion Walk hosted by Prairie Wanderers Volksport Club, Start Times: 9 a.m.- Noon; Finish by 3 p.m. Distance: 5K/10K. Start at W. H. Over Museum – trail to go through historic downtown, bike path along Vermillion River and through the USD campus. Pets not permitted at the start point. No �A� award for this event.
