Tanager tennis at state

The spring weather is determined to have the last word when it comes to the high school tennis season.

The state tournament began in Sioux Falls Thursday and is set to run through Saturday, but the forecast of at least four days of rain is bound to send the tournament indoors and cause the South Dakota High School Activities Association officials some major rescheduling headaches.

Vermillion's tennis players are among the athletes in Sioux Falls for the tournament, which will bring the season to an end.  The Tanagers, accustomed to foul weather all spring, had their last regular-season dual at Madison last Saturday cancelled because of the prospects of another cold, rainy day.

The team did get in one of its scheduled matches last week, but points were very difficult to come by last Thursday on a chilly, breezy, gray day in Sioux Falls.  The Tanagers lost to Lincoln, 9-0.
