Tanager track gearing up for regional meet

If decent early-in-the-week weather lasted until yesterday afternoon, the regular season for Vermillion High track and field athletes came to an end at the Big 8 Conference meet in Madison, setting the stage for the regional meet in Lennox next Thursday.

It takes a first- or second-place finish in any individual or relay event at the regional to earn state meet qualification.  In addition, any other placer who meets or beats the regular-season time, height or distance standard in any event also qualifies to be at the state meet in Madison and Sioux Falls on May 27-28.

As of Tuesday of this week, Vermillion athletes had already qualified for state in several events.  On the girls' side they are:

Blair Gilkyson, 800-meter run, with a best time of 2:28.20.
