Today, June 17

� Brown Bag Lunch Program, �Omaha Sings! Omaha Academy Choir,� organized under umbrella of the University of Nebraska at Omaha,� 12:05 p.m. at the National Music Museum located on the USD campus on the corner of Clark & Yale St. Free and open to the public.

� Clay County 4-H Dance at Clay County 4-H Center. Event open to incoming sixth, seventh and eighth graders. You do not have to be a 4-H member to attend � bring your friends! Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and close at 7 p.m. Dance ends at 9 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase at the dance. Cost is $3 with a canned good donation or $4 without; goods will be donated to the Food Pantry. This is a fund raiser for Clay County 4-H programs.

Saturday, June 18

� Vermillion Area Farmers Market, 9 a.m.-noon, downtown Vermillion at Ratingen Platz, Market & Main St. An educational session will follow on �Backyard Farmer: Soil Building!� from 1-2 p.m. at the 4-H Building with Dean Spader.

� Summer Film Festival, �A Walk in the Clouds,� is featured in the  Cultural Clips series, 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Vermillion Public Library. Free and open to the public.

� Weekly Wine Hour (every Wednesday) at RED Steakhouse, from 6-7 p.m. in the RED Steakhouse Vault. For more information, call 624-0079.

Thursday, June 23

� Annual Ice Cream Social sponsored by Clay County Historical Society, 5-7 p.m. at the W.H. Over Museum. Taverns, chips, homemade pies, cake, ice cream, coffee and lemonade will be served. Carry outs available. The McNeills from Springfield will provide music. Transportation will be provided from the parking areas to the front door of the museum. Freewill donation will be accepted.

� 2011 Vermillion Annual Citywide Rummage Sale. Watch your Plain Talk and Broadcaster Press for more details.

� Vermillion Area Farmer�s Market, 3-7 p.m. at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Event includes education session for customers on �What�s Cooking?� Good to Grill.� from 4-5 p.m.

� JUNE 24 � Midsommar at Dalesburg – 142nd Annual Midsommar at Dalesburg Lutheran Church. Scandinavian Smorgasbord serving from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Afternoon program at 2 p.m. with songs and stories, evening program at 7 p.m. with �The Great Pretenders,� raising of the Midsommar Pole & folkdancing.

� JUNE 24-25 � 2011 Vermillion Annual Citywide Rummage Sale. Watch your Plain Talk and Broadcaster Press for more details.

� JUNE 24-25 � Eagles Auxiliary Rummage Sale as part of Vermillion�s community-wide rummage days, 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The rummage sale will be at the Eagles Club, 114 W. Main St. Proceeds will go to charities.

� JUNE 25 � Vermilion Area Farmer�s Market, 9 a.m.-noon, downtown Vermillion at Ratingen Platz, Market & Main streets.

� JUNE 25 � Vermillion Tennis Tournament. Girls, boys, men�s and women�s singles and doubles played at the DakotaDome Courts. Applications can be found in the Vermillion High School Web site under the athletics and tennis sites. Contact Dan Hanson at or 670-9345. Entry fees are due by June 18.

� JUNE 27-JULY 7 � Sharing the Dream June Trip to Guatemala: Limit of seven people. Visit cooperatives, schools, the Elder Center, and share with our brothers and sisters in Guatemala. $1,100 per person (includes everything in Guatemala). Airfare extra. Contact Diane at for more information.

� JUNE 28 � VCDC Annual Golf Social. The 4-Person Best Ball Scramble Golf Tournament will begin with team sign-in at The Bluffs Golf Course folled by pictures at 11:45 a.m. and the open format shot gun start at 1 p.m. The buffet dinner will be served at 6 p.m. followed by the golf awards and door prizes. � JUNE 28 � �All-You-Can-Eat� Spaghetti Dinner hosted by The Eagles Auxiliary from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 114 W. Main St. Cost is $4.50 per person. Proceeds will go to charities.

� JULY 4 � Annual 4th of July Celebration at Barstow Park, 6 p.m. to dark. Inflatables for kids (cost – $5), beverage garden, food vendors, various childrens� activities, music by C&K Entertainment, Hy-Vee�s 5th Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest and huge fireworks display at dusk. � JULY 4 � Hy-Vee�s 5th Annual Hot Dog Eating Championship, 8 p.m. at Barstow Park. Two divisions (Mens and Ladies), $100 top prize and $50 second prize for both divisions. Sponsored by Hy-Vee, Equalizer, Coca-Cola and Sara Lee. For more information, rules and registration, stop at the Hy-Vee customer service desk.

� JULY 4 � �Fun in the Sun,� 9 a.m.-noon at the Prentis Park Pool. Money dive for K-8th grade starting at 9 a.m. Fun events with great prizes for all ages including dives with the biggest splash, smallest splash, and best belly flop, longest treading water, farthest underwater swim and a family/group relay race.
