The Sioux City Journal recently released their list of the Best Shows of 2010-11. On a list that included Elton John for the Best Large Scale Concert and Bill Cosby as Best Touring Comedian two awards went to Vermillion talent.
Vermillion singer/actress, Erin Conlon was recognized as Best Supporting Actress for her work in The Great American Trailer Park Musical presented by Sioux City Community Theatre. Her citation read: With a resume that includes numerous theater productions, Conlon presented trailer trash character "Betty" better than any woman on Jerry Springer. With a beautiful singing voice that resonated throughout the theater, we hope this Vermillion resident shares her talents with other Siouxland audiences.
Conlon is the tour manager for the Childrens Theatre Company of South Dakota and a long time employee at the Nook n Cranny. She has been seen on Vermillion stages since childhood, most recently as Aunt Eller in the 2010 Vermillion Community Theatre production of Oklahoma! She can be seen next on stage as Mrs. Higgins in the VCT July production of My Fair Lady and is also co-directing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to be presented in August.
The University of South Dakota theatre department received credit as the Best Local Production for its presentation of Shakespeares Twelfth Night. The citation read: With a set designed by Tim Case that resembled a pop-up story book, Director Chaya Gordon-Bland brought together all the elements necessary for a top-notch production. Students articulated the prose of Shakespeare so even Midwesterners could follow the complicated plot that follows the follies of human beings.
