Local flood information

Flood Volunteers Needed:

� to help with meals for the National Guard troops (call 677-5889 to volunteer)

� to help with sandbag efforts in Vermillion (stop by parking lot at Courthouse to see if there is a need for volunteers  or if you need to pick up sandbags to protect your property)

� to help with sandbag efforts at Dakota Dunes (located at old Gateway Building off North Sioux City exit)

Temporary Animal Shelter Established

The Yankton Police Department, with the assistance of The Heartland Humane Society and The Humane Society of the United States have set up a temporary Animal Shelter at the 4H grounds, to provide a safe place for the pets of those affected by the flooding. The use of Alcoa Arena to establish this temporary shelter has been generously donated by the Miracle Hockey Association, and supplies have been donated by Petsmart. Volunteers are needed also. Please contact Animal Control Officer at 605-661-9494, or the Yankton Police Department, at 605-668-5210.
