Winding up their regular season, the Vermillion Grey Sox took it on the chin from the Irene Cardinals, 10-3, in Irene last week.
Several Grey Sox batters had outstanding nights at the plate. The problem was translating those hits into runs. Vermillion was down 5-0 when it scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh, but Irene quickly put the game out of reach again with a three-run seventh and a two-run eighth.
Kyle Nemec slugged three hits, Cody Schreiber two hits, Tyler Williamson two hits and Grant Lueders a solo home run for the Grey Sox.
Vermillion was to open its postseason with a home game this past Wednesday against Renner in the first round of the district tournament.
