Marilyn J. Siecke, 72, of Vermillion, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at Touchstone Living Center Hospice Unit in Sioux City, IA. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Vermillion with Reverend Elmer Sandy Aakre officiating. Graveside services were in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk, NE at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Rohde Funeral in Kingsley, IA. Visitation continued July 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Iverson-Siecke Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by an Eastern Star Service.
Marilyn JoAnn was born Dec. 23, 1938 in rural Stanton County, Nebraska, the daughter of Adolph and Laura (Keenan) Heinold. She attended Canfield country school through eighth grade and graduated from Stanton High School in 1956. After high school she attended Wayne State Teachers college in Wayne, NE, receiving a Teaching Certificate. Marilyn taught country school in Wayne County, Nebraska before getting married.
Marilyn and Alton L. Siecke were married Dec. 28, 1956, in Stanton, NE. After being married 53 years he passed away Aug. 9, 2010.Throughout their married life, Al and Marilyn lived in multiple places, moving back to Nebraska after Al graduated from Mortuary Science College in California. Together in 1981 they purchased the Wagner-Iverson Funeral Home of Vermillion, and the Anderson Funeral Home of Elk Point in 2002. For 27 years she worked alongside Al in the business until they sold it to Lori and Tom Kober in 2008. In May of 2008 she and Al established the Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley, IA along with their daughter, Tami.
Marilyn was very involved in the community of Vermillion. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Vermillion, and served on the Civic Council Board, Eastern Star and Rebekahs. She was a Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and served as South Dakotas representative several times. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards especially bridge, collecting anything with butterflies, watching sports especially with her family. Also, she enjoyed writing poetry and painting, talents she discovered later in life.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Tamera (Mark) Rohde of Kingsley, IA; son, Mark (Bev) Siecke of Decatur, NE; grandsons, Tyler (Becky) Siecke of Omaha, NE, and Seth (Annie) Rohde of Sioux City, IA and Tate Rohde of Kingsley, IA; granddaughters, Tanna (Nick) White of Omaha, NE and Megan Rohde of Sioux City, IA; great-grandson, Nolan White of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law, VonDelle Heinold of Pilger, NE and Judy Collins of Sioux City, IA; brothers-in-law, Leon Siecke of Ceres, CA, and Doug (Phyllis) Siecke of Madison, NE; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alton; daughters, Jacqilyn Kay and Sharilyn Sue; her brother, LaVerne Heinold; and brother-in-law, Keith Collins.
