A downtown Vermillion Restaurant was heavily damaged by a fire early Saturday.
The Vermillion Fire Department was called to Recuerdos Mexican Restaurante, 112 East Main St., at approximately 3 a.m.
Most of the damage to the building appears to have occurred in its front, dining area. The restaurants front windows facing Main Street are gone, its front doorway is blackened, and it appears that flames even destroyed the business front sign and blackened the metal frame that held it.
The incident is being investigated by the South Dakota Fire Marshal and local law enforcement.
