Members of the Jolly J.J.�s 4-H club have been busy organizing the second annual Clay County 4-H 5K Run/Walk. The Clay County 4-H 5K Run/Walk is set to be run on Saturday, Aug. 13 with the race starting at 8 a.m. The cost to participate is $20, which includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Anyone who registers after Aug. 1 will have to pay $25 and this cost many not include a T-shirt.
Pre-registered runners/walkers can pick up their packets anytime from 7:30 to 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. Any runners/walkers who did not pre-register may register at this time. All participants, family members and friends are encouraged to bring items to donate to the Vermillion Food Pantry on Saturday, Aug. 13. For every food pantry item donated their name will be placed into a special drawing for prizes donated by local Vermillion businesses.
Any money raised from the run/walk will be given to the Clay County 4-H Program to help with costs involved with camps, classes offered (formerly known as Come Create Days), educational opportunities, etc. for the youth of Vermillion between the ages of 8 and 18 years old. 4-H offers wonderful learning opportunities for the youth of Clay County.
The Clay County 4-H Run/Walk will take place on the last day of the Clay County Fair. Members of the Jolly J.J.�s 4-H club are challenging all 4-H members current and former to come out and participate and show your support of 4-H. Everyone is encouraged to participate in these events. There will be a prize awarded to the first place winner (man and woman) in each age category: Under 18, 19, to 25 and 26 and over.
There is a new running/walking route for the Clay County 4-H 5K Run/Walk this year. The new route as well as more information about the run/walk can be found on the Clay County Fair website which is www.claycountyfair.net. Pre-registration forms may by picked up at the Clay County Extension Office � 515 High Street, Vermillion, or downloaded from the website. The Jolly J.J.�s 4-H club members are very excited about the 5K run/walk and hope to have a great turnout on Saturday, Aug. 13.
