Vermillion's Grey Sox have made it back to the state amateur tournament.
The Grey Sox will begin play in the first round of the Class "B" tournament against the Dell Rapids Pabst Blue Ribbon team at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The event is being played at Mitchell's Cadwell Park.
After going 1-1 in their first two district tournament games the previous weekend, the Grey Sox had to beat Elk Point at Garretson last Wednesday to earn a berth in the state tournament. Thanks to a strong seven-inning pitching performance by Cody Schreiber and timely hitting throughout the lineup, they won the contest, 9-3.
Schreiber allowed only two hits and one earned run in his seven innings on the mound. At the plate Jason Rasmussen had two doubles and a single while Kyle Nemec, Michael Kendall, Schreiber and Grant Lueders each had two hits.
Bo Bruinsma took the pitching loss for the Stags, who got single hits from Cole Knippling, Brooks Little and Josh Gross.
