Harriet Millage


Harriet C. Millage, 84, of Vermillion, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011 at the Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point.

Harriet Slowey was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Sioux City, IA to Patrick and Katherine (Donnelly) Slowey. She married Ervin L. Millage on March 18, 1945 in Elk Point. Harriet worked many years in the Vermillion area. While living in Sioux City, she worked at St. Lukes Hospital.

Ervin and Harriet owned and operated Hub Pub in Hub City for many years. Harriet also worked at the University of South Dakota until she was 65, retired and moved to the Town Square apartments and worked part time there.

She was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Newman Center and The Eagles.

She is survived by a son, Michael (Carolyn) Millage of Woodbridge, VA; three daughters, Kathy Renner of Virginia Beach, VA, Tarey (Bill) Shipley of Archie, MO, Lea (Mike) Rumelhart of Vermillion; seven grandchildren, Boyd, Ryan and Brodie Renner, Matt Millage, Judd Davis, Ryan Rumelhart, Kacy (Damian) Janssen; and seven great-grandchildren, Braum, Brady and Dash Renner, Jay, Emmy, Blake and Bria Rumelhart. She is also survived by seven Shipley step great-grandchildren; five Janssen step great-grandchildren; a brother, Leslie (Betty) Slowey of Tennessee, a brother-in-law Leo (Joyce) Millage of Rapid City; three sister-in-laws, Ethel Harrington of Clear Lake, IA, Nita Bailey of Minnetonka, MN, and Doris (Doug) Myron of Ohio. Also survived by a good family friend, Scott Davis, many relatives, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral mass was 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion with burial following in the Bluffview Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation began at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11 with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion. Online condolences and obituary: hansenfuneralhome.com.
