Detective Robin Hower of the Vermillion Police Department dares a youngster to throw a perfect pitch, hit a target with a ball, and give him a splash in the departments dunk tank in Prentis Park Tuesday evening. It was just one of many family-oriented activities held in the park as part of the annual National Night Out event held every August. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored by the Vermillion Police Department. The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and generate support for local anti-crime efforts. Food was provided by Hy-Vee, and youngsters enjoyed several game booths set up at the park, hosted by personnel from the police department. Train rides offered by police staff was a big hit.
