Normand W. Thompson, 83, of Vermillion, passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 at his home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Vermillion, with Pastor Samuel Needham officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery in Pukwana.
Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
Normand was born on Nov. 2, 1927 in Pukwana, to Wilhemena �Minnie� (Swanson) and Henry Thompson. He attended school in the Pukwana � Chamberlain areas. Upon leaving school, Normand farmed in the Pukwana area. He married Doris Speck on October 14, 1951. The couple had four children. He later moved to Vermillion where he met and married Sandra Rae Lee on September 25, 1969.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Rae of Vermillion; three sisters, Lois Bode of Chamberlain, Lorraine (Lewis) Moseman of White Lake, Lucille Fick of Luverne, MN; one brother, Avery (Glenda) Thompson of Chamberlain; his children, Barb Hanson of Minneapolis, MN, Darwin (Laurie) Thompson of Colorado, Mary (Dan) Hauser of Minnesota, Debbie (Michael) Prather of Vermillion, John (Melissa) Lee of Vermillion, Norma (Harry) DuVall of Wyoming, Vicki (David) Fransen of Aberdeen, Thomas Thompson, and Timothy Thompson both of Vermillion; also 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Doris (Speck) Thompson; his parents and one brother, Milton Thompson.
