Recuerdo’s fire ruled arson

Investigators have determined arson as the cause of the July 16 fire at Recuerdo's Restaurant in downtown Vermillion.

The Vermillion Police Department is seeking information regarding arson at a downtown Vermillion restaurant.

Police Chief Matthew Betzen requests the publics help in identifying the person(s) responsible for the July 16 fire at Recuerdos Mexican Restaurant in the 100 block of East Main Street.

The VPD is offering a $500 reward for any information leading to the identity, arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for starting this fire.

Sometime between 2:45 a.m. and 2:56 a.m., someone entered the restaurant and intentionally started the business on fire, Betzen said in a press release.

In reviewing video footage from local businesses, several vehicles were seen approaching the intersection of Main and Dakota streets near the time of the fire.

The Vermillion Police Department would like to speak with persons who saw anyone in the area that night or has information about the fire.
