There are just four weeks left to file claims for disaster aid with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), disaster officials announced Sept. 27.
The last day to file for aid with FEMA is Oct. 24. That is also the last day to return applications for disaster loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA).
"There's still time to file your claim but the deadline is approaching quickly," said Federal Coordinating Officer Mark Neveau of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "Don't wait until it's too late."
Homeowners, renters and businesses in Charles Mix, Hughes, Stanley, Union and Yankton counties may be eligible for the assistance. They can register for it by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585, or by going online at www.disasterassistance.gov, or through a Web-enabled mobile device or Smartphone by going to m.fema.gov.
Other disaster-related deadlines are also approaching:
 Disaster Unemployment Assistance
The deadline for filing for Disaster Unemployment Assistance is Sept. 29 for those living in Charles Mix, Hughes, Stanley, and Union counties. Yankton County claims must be filed by Oct. 7. Disaster unemployment is available for farmers, farmhands and self-employed people who normally do not qualify for unemployment.
 Disaster Recovery Center
The Disaster Recovery Center in North Sioux City located at 1246 River Road (next to a Taco John's in a strip mall) will close at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. After that, people who want to add information to their application or ask questions about it can call the FEMA Helpline, which is the same phone number as for registration, 800-621-3362, or TTY 800-462-7585, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CDT.
 Small Business Administration
October 24 is the deadline to submit property damage applications for low-interest federal disaster loans to the SBA. Until the DRC closes, SBA representatives will continue to meet individually with residents and business owners to answer questions, explain how a disaster loan can help them pay for disaster losses and help applicants complete their disaster loan application. Applicants may apply online via SBA's secure Web site at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela. Information and assistance is also available from SBA's Customer Service Center by calling (800) 659-2955, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or visiting SBA's Web site at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance. Individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing may call (800) 877-8339.
