Marie Louise Eklund, age 95, Council Bluffs, IA., formerly of Beresford and Vermillion, passed away Aug. 24, 2011 in Council Bluffs, IA.
Marie was born Nov. 22, 1915 in Beresford to Gustav and Ida S. Messler Erickson. She graduated from high school in 1933 and attended the University of South Dakota where she earned a State Certificate in 1937. She taught rural school for three years before marrying Arthur Eklund, and becoming a homemaker. Arthur and Louise had four children and when they entered school, Louise went back to teaching the upper-elementary grades for 15 years. She later became the Elementary School Librarian for the next 10 years. Louise became a widow in 1984 when Arthur died after 47 years of marriage. She moved to Vermillion and later to Council Bluffs in 2009. Louise is also preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel Erickson, Ruth Weber and Alice Orr, and son-in-law, Dick Tannahill.
Survivors include her three daughters, Arlene Tannahill of Council Bluffs, Jean Gepson and Carol Glover both of Omaha, NE; and son, Dennis Eklund of Fort Pierce, FL, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation with family was Monday, Aug. 29, from 12 noon to 1 p.m., followed by funeral at 1 p.m., all at Dalesburg Lutheran Church, 13 miles north of Vermillion. Interment Dalesburg Lutheran Cemetery.
