Andre ties for 16th at state golf

To qualify for one's second state golf tournament while still only a freshman is one thing.  To place among the top 20 in the state as a freshman is something else.

Vermillion's Carter Andre did both.

The tall, lanky Andre carded a 78 in Monday's first round of the state Class "A" boys tournament at The Bluffs and was tied for ninth place at that point.  He followed with an 82 on Tuesday to finish with a 160, 16 off the pace and good for a tie for 16th place.

Andre was the only freshman among the top 20.

Sisseton's Ryan Medhaug was the state individual medalist with a 144, two strokes better than Milbank's Ryan Patnoe and three shots ahead of Michael Schmidt of Dell Rapids.  Dells won the team title followed by Harrisburg, Aberdeen Roncalli, Sioux Falls Christian, Sisseton and Lead/Deadwood.
