On Oct. 6, the Vermillion Public Library hosted a "Read for the Record" after school program. Twenty-two children and many parents enjoyed hearing the book "Llama Llama Red Pajama," playing Llama Llama BINGO, and making Llama Llama puppets. Door prizes were given and treats were served.
"Read for the Record" is a nationwide program sponsored by Jumpstart in partnership with the Pearson Foundation. Its purpose is to draw attention to the early education achievement gap and put books in the hands of young children. You can learn more about this event or donate to the cause by going to http://www.jstart.org/site/PageServer?pagename=rftr_homepage.
Special thanks to HyVee for providing the beautifully decorated cake, Seema Kannoth for preparing the puppet materials, and the volunteers from the USD Reading Council for helping with the activities.
The next after school event at the Vermillion Public Library will be a Halloween costume party for all elementary school students on Monday, Oct. 31 at 3:45 p.m.
