Robert Brown, 83, of LaGrange, IN died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange, IN.
Mr. Brown retired in 1972 from the United States Army as a Sergeant Major and as a veteran having served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Mr. Brown had worked as an inspector for 10 years with the Pennsylvania Railroad in Logansport, IN and taught ROTC, Military History and coached the Rifle Team at The University of South Dakota from 1967-1969. In 1970, he moved to LaGrange County to work for Howe Military School in Howe, IN and worked as a history teacher and a rifle instructor until his retirement in 1976.
Mr. Brown was a member of Meridian Sun Lodge # 76 F. & A.M. in LaGrange, IN, Mizpah Temple in Fort Wayne, IN, LaGrange County Shrine Club, Sylvan Chapter #251 Order of Eastern Star in LaGrange, and Walton American Legion Post #418 in Walton, IN.
Mr. Brown was born on Oct. 7, 1928 in Bowen, KY to Oscar and Cleda (Hatton) Brown. They preceded him in death.
On Dec. 13, 1975 in Howe, IN he married Nancy J. Aldrich. Mrs. Brown survives in LaGrange, IN.
Also surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Olson of Vermillion, and Tammy and Chris Wells of Fort Wayne, IN; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dudley and Penny Brown of Sturgis, MI and Richard Brown of LaGrange, IN; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Juanita and Tom Watson of Logansport, IN, Sue and Bob Mordenti of Delphi, IN, Margie Brown of Walton, IN and Joanie and Joe Diaz of Holland, MI; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Elaine Brown of Logansport, IN, Charles and Connie Brown of Walton, IN and Al and Sandy Brown of Delphi, IN.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, IN with Rev. George Weister officiating.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the Meridian Sun Lodge# 76 F. & A.M.
Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children.
