Wanda Hannahs, 48, of Vermillion, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7 at her home.
Wanda was born October 15, 1962 in Vermillion, to Lyle and June (Miille) Sherman. She attended school in Wakonda, and graduated in 1980. Following graduation she enrolled in Nettleton College and graduated with an associate's degree in accounting.
Wanda married Daniel Swensen on Aug. 7, 1982. Their daughter, Heather, was born on April 5, 1985. They later divorced and she remarried Tim Hannahs on Dec. 17, 1993. With this union Wanda gained two step-daughters, Echo and Jenni. Tim and Wanda's daughter, Dana, was born April 17, 1991.
Wanda enjoyed driving motorcycles, camping, hunting and spending quality time with her family. After being involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident, Wanda spent many days volunteering her time to tell her story to many people including USD Physical and Occupational Therapy students. Wanda touched many hearts in the community with her warm and cheerful personality. She was always optimistic in trying to make the best of her situation.
She is survived by her husband, Tim, of Vermillion; two step-daughters, Echo Heinrich of Yankton, Jenni (Greg) Bates of Centerville; and two daughters, Heather (Tyler) Anglin and Dana Hannahs (Justin Nelsen, special friend) all of Vermillion. She is also survived by her mother, June Sherman of Vermillion; and five sisters, Saundra (Cal) Rahn of Ponca, NE, Elaine (Skip) Johnson of Vermillion, Janice (Don) Lyso of Wakonda, Verlene (Richard) Olson of Irene, and Verna Jean (Dick) Orr of Wakonda; and six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Katie, Coral, Matthew, Cameron and Waylon.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Stephen.
Funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion. Burial followed in the BluffView Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation was at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the church. hansenfuneralhome.com.
