First Bank & Trust congratulates Mitchell Ellison and Valerie Robinson on being October's Students of the Month at Vermillion High School! They will each receive a $100 scholarship from First Bank & Trust for their dedication and the excellence they have shown in and out of the classroom.
Mitch was nominated because of his determined and hard-working attitude to achieve in any activity he was a part of, and for being a role model for his younger classmates. He plans to go to college to get a degree in the Health Science Field. His parents are Doug and Nancy Ellison.
He came to Vermillion from Spalding Catholic School in Granville IA, where he feels he learned the importance of volunteering, community, and being a role model for others. His honors include Boys State, National Honors Society, and student council. He has been a part of activities such as basketball, marching band, golf team, and speech contests. He has shown his commitment to the community by ringing the bell for the Salvation Army and helping at St. Agnes.
Val received her nomination because of her ability to inspire those around her.
"She is bubbly, yet serious in unique circumstances" says one of her faculty endorsers. Her punctuality, hard work and smile will be missed by many at VHS. Val's parents are Curt and Nancy Robinson.
Her future plans are to major in Special Education. Some of Val's honors include National Honors Society, Girls State, and Tutor Recognition. She has been in many activities at VHS such as varsity basketball, student council, Spanish club, and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She has been a big part of this community with her involvement in the Vermillion Food Pantry, Welcome Table, Vermillion City Wide Clean up, and as a
Vermillion Library volunteer.
Way to go Val!
