Holiday trimmings

Vermillion city employees took advantage of mild temperatures Monday to spruce up the downtown business district in preparation for Christmas. The season will be ushered in this weekend with a variety of activities, including the third annual Parade of Lights, which will be held on Main Street Friday, Dec. 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. At the conclusion of the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will light the Community Christmas tree that was also put in place Monday at the Ratingen Platz on the corner of Main and Market streets. Other holiday events scheduled this week include the Tree of Lights Open House and Wreath Auction, held by the Dakota Hospital Foundation Thursday, Dec. 1 at the Al Neuharth Media Center, the USD Symphony Orchestra winter concert, Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Slagle Hall Aalfs Auditorium, the second annual Breakfast with Santa, Saturday, Dec. 3 from 9 to 12 p.m. at St. Agnes School Gym, 909 E. Lewis St., the Tour of Homes sponsored by Clay County Historical Society, Saturday, Dec. 3 from 3 to 7 p.m. with a reception beginning at 4 p.m. at the Austin Whittemore House, 15 Austin St., and the annual Holiday Festival at the W.H.
