A larger-than-usual number of teams is slated to appear in Vermillion next week for the annual Winter Wonderland Gymnastics Invitational.
The annual holiday gymnastics extravaganza held at Vermillion High School's main gymnasium will take place on Thursday, Dec. 29. The grand march and introduction of teams is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. with competition rotations beginning at 11:20. Teams will be in the gym for warmups starting at 9 a.m.
Coach Mark Upward and his Tanagers will host nine other schools from all corners of the state for the meet, including Chamberlain, Sisseton, Milbank, Sioux Falls Washington, Stanley County, Britton-Hecla, Wagner, Hot Springs and West Central. Each team will be permitted up to six individuals in each of the four events—vault, floor exercise, uneven parallel bars and balance beam.
Last Friday at a triangular hosted by VHS, Sioux Falls Roosevelt emerged as the team winner with 138.1 points, followed by the Tanagers at 114.75 and West Central at 105.4.
The two best Tanager placers were Morgan Hower, who was third on the bars with a 7.65 score, and Rory Tucker, sixth place on the beam at 6.7.
