The Clay Rural Water System was named the 2011 SD Rural Water System of the Year at the recent South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems Annual Technical Conference held in Pierre.
Clay RWS was singled out from 30 Class A rural water systems from across the state. The System was recognized for planning and carrying out its 2010 Capital Improvements Project. The project, valued at just over $3 million dollars, made numerous improvements to the water systems treatment and distribution system. Clay RW received $1.25 million in grants for the project. The project was completed in 2010 and 2011.
Clay RWS also received third place in the "Best Drinking Water in South Dakota" taste test.
In addition Clay RWS Director Rick Peterson was honored with the Carroll Anderson award. The award is presented each year in recognition of outstanding voluntary contributions to the advancement of rural community water systems. The award represents the greatest tribute the association can bestow on an individual to recognize contributions to both the member system and to SDARWS. Carroll Anderson was a long-time member of the Kingbrook Rural Water System board and also served on the SDARWS board.
Peterson has been a member of the Clay RWS board for ten years. He has served in numerous capacities as an officer. He also represents Clay RWS on the SDARWS board, where he serves at Treasurer.
