Two individual champions and three other top-four placers within their respective weight classes lifted Vermillion's wrestlers to a fourth-place team finish at Saturday's Brandon Valley Invitational.
The Tanagers' 133.5 team points left them behind champion Huron, Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Brandon Valley and ahead of West Central, Harrisburg, Sioux Falls O'Gorman and Sioux Falls Lincoln.
Brett Bye at 132 pounds remained undefeated for the season in winning his championship, and Will Mart captured the 285-pound class, and both of them finished their day in style. Bye won his title with a pin in 3:18 over Zach Determan of Roosevelt. Mart took the same route, pinning Lincoln's Hunter Collins in 3:44 in his championship match.
Regan Bye earned third-place honors at 138 pounds, finishing his tournament with a 4:20 pin of Roosevelt's Brandon Swartz.
Seth Heine was the third-place wrestler among the 220-pounders, earning his medal with a 6-2 decision in the third-place match over Roosevelt's John Kovaleski.
Alex Osborne had his best tournament of the season, placing fourth at 160 pounds.
The Tanagers will again head up I-29 this Saturday for the Harrisburg Invitational. They will make their first home appearance of the season next Thursday against Canton.
