Fans are encouraged to bring canned food items to the upcoming USD vs. SDSU women's basketball game on Monday, Feb. 13. Canned food collections were also held before the Thursday, Feb. 9 USD/SDSU basketball game at the DakotaDome.
South Dakota student athletes will be outside the north and south box office collecting cans in marked shopping carts for the Feb. 13 women's game starting at 5:30 p.m. In addition, $5 donations will be accepted and will be used to purchase cans to support the USD Food Fight.
As an added bonus, fans bringing five cans together to either game will receive a ticket voucher for selected upcoming Coyote basketball home contests including men's games on Feb. 18 and Feb. 23 and women's games on Feb. 27 and March 1.
USD SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) are currently competing with other Summit League schools to each support their local communities in a "Food Fight." The USD collection will locally benefit the Vermillion Food Pantry.
Recently, USD student athletes worked with the Vermillion Middle School and launched their local campaign and collected over a ton – specifically 2,380 pounds – of canned food. They also visited the students in a casual format during their lunch periods to discuss school, competing in athletics and the canned food drive.
