Senior Kenna Wolter and sophomore Jeff Mettler each set school records to lead the South Dakota track and field teams at Day 2 of the Iowa State Classic in Ames, IA, on Saturday.
The Coyotes had several other strong finishes against some of their toughest competition of the 2012 season.
Wolter (Santa Maria, CA), the reigning Summit League Female Athlete of the Week, took second in the seeded triple jump with an effort of 41-3. A week earlier, she had set a school record in the event with an effort of 41-0 1/2. Wolter finished ahead of athletes from Iowa, Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri State and Northern Illinois in the event.
Sophomore Jeff Mettler (Eureka) set a new school record in the men's 3,000 meters, taking fourth in the seeded race with a time of 8:15.46. He topped runners from Iowa State, Southern Illinois, Drake and Lamar in that race.
