After two years in the South Dakota State House of Representatives, Tom Jones is a candidate for a two year term in the South Dakota State Senate from District 17. Tom has enjoyed serving the people of Clay and Turner County in the House , especially this past year as the severe budget cuts of two years ago wasn't pleasant.
During his legislative term, debates have included: education needs, Medicaid issues, concealed weapons; passing legislation concerning bullying, bill boards, budget cuts, raises for state employees along with lesser topics such as hunting coyotes from snowmobiles and hunting muskrats.
Jones and his wife, Linda, have lived in Viborg for 33 years. They have two daughters, Tami (Tom) Jurgens of Parker and Nikki (Gregg) Peters of Vermillion, and also enjoy five grandchildren. They have been in the grocery, hardware, and convenience store business in 11 different communities in South Dakota. Prior to coming to Viborg, Tom taught and coached in high schools and universities for 15 years.
