Internationally-acclaimed trumpeter Joe Burgstaller, formerly of the Canadian Brass and the Meridian Arts Ensemble, will be on campus at the University of South Dakota on March 29 and 30.
Burgstaller currently teaches at the Peabody Institute and leads his crossover quartet, BM4, a New York City-based group that features Grammy and Oscar-nominated musicians. He is also well-known for his Rafael Mendez Tribute concerts.
Plan to come to any or all of the events, which are free and open to the public and take place in Colton Recital Hall in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts.
On Thursday, March 29 at 11 a.m. is a Clinic for all musicians: "The Myth of Reality and the Illusion of Control" and at noon the clinic continues for all brass players.
At 8 p.m. there will be a Burgstaller recital with USD Trumpet Ensemble, featuring Arutunian Concerto, works of Mendez and others.
On Friday, March 30, from 3-4:30 p.m. there will be a Trumpet Master Class. At 7:30 p.m. in Aalfs Auditorium is the USD Symphonic Band Concert with Burgstaller, soloist.
