First Bank & Trust would like to congratulate Edward Martineau and Sami Girard for being Vermillion High Schools January Students of the Month! They will receive a $100 scholarship for the excellence they show in and out of the classroom.
Edward was nominated because of his above and beyond attitude in and out of the classroom. His plans after high school are to go to a 2 year church mission and then onto college for Archeology and Education. His parents are James and Stacy Martineau.
His activities include VHS oral interpretation, member of Advanced Wind Symphony, a member of True Edge Academy (European Martial Arts), ballroom dance team where he ranked third at nationals for the waltz, and was stage manager for productions such as The Phantom of the Opera and Children of Eden. He also was a stage technician for Dracula and Les Miserables. He is an Eagle Scout and a member of Center Stage Youth Performers. Congratulations Edward!
Sami received her nomination because of her hard work and her desire to help others to succeed. She plans to go to USD and major in pre-med and then to go onto medical school, also at USD. Her parents are Mark and Chris Girard.
Sami has been active for four years in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She has also been involved in Students Against Destructive Decisions, National Honor Society and has been on the honor roll since her Junior year of high school. She has umpired for children's softball games and been a part of softball camps. Her community activities include a trip to Mexico to help put a new roof on a church, volunteering at the Vermillion Library, and helping in Vermillion Cleanup Day. To show her desire to help her fellow students succeed, she has been a student tutor for two years. Way to go Sami!
