Friday, April 20, is a day to celebrate 150 years at the University of South Dakota and everyone is invited to share in "USD Day" fun in honor of the university's 150th anniversary.
Along with a special cake and a reading of a governor's proclamation recognizing "USD Day" in South Dakota, the USD Pep Band will be on hand to lead the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to Charlie Coyote as the campus pays homage to Charlie's birthday.
The fun starts at 12:30 p.m. at the Pit Lounge inside the Muenster University Center. A short program featuring remarks from USD President James W. Abbott, SGA President Alissa VanMeeteren and Kersten Johnson, executive director of the Alumni Association, will also be part of USD's open house activities.
The Sesquicentennial Weekend also includes an 8 p.m. performance at Aalfs Auditorium on Friday, April 20, by the legendary rock group KANSAS – accompanied by the USD Symphony Orchestra; USD Theatre's presentation of the award-winning musical, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" (7:30 p.m. shows April 20-21 and a 2 p.m. matinee on April 22); the Red/White Spring Football Game at the DakotaDome at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21; and the USD Concert Choir on stage for a 3 p.m. concert at Aalfs Auditorium on Saturday, April 21.
