Friday, May 4

  • Hospital Auxiliary meeting, 2 p.m. at Sanford Vermillion Board Room, 20 S. Plum (Administrative entrance just south of the hospital entrance).
  • National Music Museum (NMM) Brown Bag Lunch Program at 12:05 p.m. featuring "Silver and Wood" — Linda Chatterton and James Flegel, flute and classical guitar performng in the Arne B. Larson Concert Hall at the NMM located on USD campus, corner of Clark and Yale streets. Open to the public at no charge.
  • Twenty-One Feet of White Space – Graduate Collaborative Exhibition: Collaborative Exhibition featured at LumoStudios and Gallery, 2 E. Main, Vermillion. Exhibition is hosted by five USD graduate students working in collaboration with other students from the University of Wyoming and the University of Missouri. The show will run from May 4-12, with a reception from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, May 4 at LumoStudios. LumoStudios hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 12:30-5 p.m.

  • Ceremony: This year marks the Fourth Annual Native Graduate Honoring recognizing and honoring Native students and their accomplishments from 5-7 p.m. at USD Muenster University Center Grand Ballroom.
  • Vermillion High School presents "Bye Bye Birdie" by Michael Stewart, Charles Strouse and Lee Adams at 7:30 p.m. in the high school performing arts center. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and free to those with Vermillion School District activity cards. Tickets can be purchased at the door or the high school office.

Saturday, May 5

  • Overeaters Anonymous at 9 a.m. Location: 20 S. Plum St, Administration entrance, board room. Overeasters Anonymous is a 12-step program for people with eating disorders and struggles.
  • The 125th Commencement Exercises of the University of South Dakota at 9:30 a.m. at USD DakotaDome.
  • Heikes Family Farm LLC Grand Opening! From 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Heikes Family Farm Greenhouse and Garden Center (across from Masaba on 317th St. Hourse: MWF from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday at Vermillion Farmers Market.   • Vermillion Eagle Riders Poker Run — Rain or Shine. Registration begins at 11 a.m.; scenic ride at own pace begins at noon. All types of vehicles welcome. Silent auction follows the drawing hands.   • The Main Street Center will be hosting a Salad and Sandwich Luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 320 W. Main St. There will be a variety of salads and desserts served with a sandwich and beverages. Tickets are $6 adults and $4 for children 2-8 years of age and can be purchased in advance (624-8072) or at the door. Please join us for great food, fun and door prizes. Open to the public.
  • Gayville Hall's Musical Variety Show: "The Hay Country Jamboree" at 8 p.m. in Gayville. For ticket information, call 605-267-2859.

  • Vermillion Rotary Club Meeting, noon-1 p.m. in the Freedom Forum Conference Room of the Al Neuharth Media Center.
  • American Legion Wallace Post and Auxiliary meeting at 7 p.m. at the Main Street Center located at 320 W. Main St.

Wednesday, may 9

  • Spring Fling Dinner fundraiser at the First United Methodist Church from 5:30-7 p.m. in the fellowship rooms at 16 N. Dakota St. Menu: Roast beef, potatoes, vegetables and desserts. Cost: $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years and under. The public is invited to come and enjoy the dinner.

THURSDAY, May 10

  • 6th, 7th & 9th Grade Spring Concert at 6:30 p.m. at Vermillion High School.

Planning Ahead:

  • MAY 12 — Heartland Humane Society Animal Fair: Heartland Humane Society will hold their Animal Fair at Riverside Park in Yankton. This is an annual fundraiser that includes activities for every member of the family – even the four-legged ones. The walk/run registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. Pet contests, including owner-pet look-a-like, most unusual pet, best-dressed pet and best pet trick will be held at the amphitheatre at 11:45 a.m. The animal fair will also showcase demontrations by the local K-9 police unit, 4-H group and a basic obedience overview. There will be food and over 20 vendors onsite from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. A variety of animals will also be in attendance including miniature horses and a camel.   • MAY 24 — Job Search Assistance Program (JSAP) sponsored by The Department of Labor and Regulation will be held in Vermillion from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 1024 W. Cherry St. The JSAP is designed to assist and train job seekers on how to find and secure employment. Some of the topics included are job search and retention skills, networking, the hidden job market, resumes, applications and proper interview techniques. It is provided at no charge and open to the public.
