The South Dakota track and field teams set two more school records to conclude competition at the Drake Relays Saturday in Des Moines, IA. Saturday's records gave the Coyotes four school records for the meet.
The Coyotes' 1,600 sprint medley relay finished third and set a new school record at 3:53.25, topping the previous time by more than a second. The sprint medley consisted of freshman Analisa Huschle (Bagley, MN), junior Ashley Sveum (Eau Claire, WS), junior Alexa Duling (Gregory, SD) and senior Emma Ladwig (Gayville). That relay finished ahead of teams from Missouri, Iowa and Iowa State.
Duling set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles, running a time of 59.79 to take 13th in the event. Duling topped the previous mark she set by .13 seconds.
Junior Casey Shade (Hartford, SD) was fifth in the men's 800-meter run, running a time of 1:50.78 in a highly-competitive race. Sophomore Jeff Mettler (Eureka, SD) ran the second-fastest time of his career in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, taking sixth at 9:06.04.
The Coyotes' 1,600 spring medley relay was 12th at 3:28.26. That consisted of junior Brandon Kovash (Harrisburg, SD), senior Jared Clement (Le Mars, IA), freshman Lukas Bernard (Watertown) and sophomore Travis Brenner (Yankton).
South Dakota's teams are back in action on Saturday, May 5 at the Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln, NE. The meet is the final tuneup for the Coyotes before the Summit League Outdoor Championships, which are set for May 10-12 in Fargo.
