Sioux Falls Christian won the Vermillion Invitational girls golf tournament at The Bluffs Monday with a 356 score, but the host Tanagers bested the other 10 teams in the meet with a strong second-place showing at 370.
SFC had the top two individual golfers of the day—Abby Perrenoud at 81 and Mikaela Theobald at 87—to solidify its comfortable team victory.
For Vermillion it was Allison Heien with the best score of the day, an 89 that tied her for fifth place. Kelly Amundson was eighth with an 80. Kate Brockevelt played the course in 95, and Elly Miller and Kayla Stammer had 96s. Brooke Schwasinger carded a 116. The top four scores accounted for a team's total.
Following the Tanagers in order were Madison 376, Canton 377, West Central 380, Dakota Valley 391, Vermillion JV 411, Elk Point-Jefferson 422, Beresford 428, Harrisburg 433, Tea Area 464 and Lennox 501.
For the Vermillion JV team Emily Schmitz had the best day with a 98. Taylor Kayl carded a 100, Audry Miller 105, Kelsi Herrera 108, Kyleigh Moran 118 and Kaite Herrera 125.
The Tanagers will be back on their home course today (Friday) as hosts of the Big 8 Conference tournament, which tees off at 10 a.m. Next Thursday VHS goes to the Harrisburg Invitational at 9 a.m. to play on the course where the regional tourney will be played on May 14.
